Kid Friendly Granola
Rachel Dalton-Thorpe
At Toatilly we are in the process of creating a new Granola flavour just for kids. This is part of our fundraising campaign, helping raise money for Kids Village, the UK’s first respite holiday village for children with critical illness.
Before we get into the details of how you can get involved, let us look at why breakfast is so important for children and why Granola is a great choice to add to their diet.
Why Is Breakfast So Important For Children?
Breakfast is especially important for children because it sets the tone for their physical energy, mental focus, and mood throughout the day. Here are 6 key reasons why breakfast matters for kids:
A Good Start To The Day
Breakfast provides energy after the overnight fast and helps children stay focused throughout the morning. A nutritious breakfast that includes wholegrains, protein, and fruit can support concentration and alertness. Research shows that children who eat breakfast regularly are more likely to perform well at school, including in subjects such as maths and reading.
Supports Energy Levels
Children have high energy needs for their growth and activity. A balanced breakfast helps replenish glucose levels after sleep, providing fuel for the body and supporting focus and energy for the day ahead.
Helps Support a Positive Start to the Day
Starting the day with a balanced breakfast can help children feel more settled and ready to learn.
Promotes Healthy Eating Habits
Kids who eat breakfast and start their day with a full belly full, tend to make healthier food choices. It also reducing the chances of overeating or snacking on less nutritious foods later on.
Provides Essential Nutrients
Breakfast is an important opportunity for children to get key nutrients, such as fibre, calcium, iron and vitamins, that are needed for growth, development and overall health. Children who regularly skip breakfast may find it harder to meet their daily nutritional needs.
Encourages Family Routines
Sitting down to eat together in the morning can be a nice way to connect with the family before the day starts. Breakfast times can help reinforce positive morning routines and provide a good mealtime structure.
What Are The Benefits Of Granola For Children?
Granola can be a good breakfast option for children for several reasons, especially when it’s made with natural and nutritious ingredients like our product range.
Lets find out why:
Granola is Nutrient-Dense
Granola often contains whole grains like oats, which are a source of fibre, B vitamins, and minerals such as iron and magnesium. Nuts and seeds in granola provide unsaturated fats, and together with milk or yoghurt, can contribute protein, important for normal growth and development in children.
Granola Provides Energy
The combination of complex carbohydrates, fats, and proteins give kids a steady supply of energy to fuel their school day or busy morning activities.
Granola Is Rich in Fibre
Granola made with oats, seeds, and dried fruits provides fibre, which supports healthy digestion and helps children feel fuller for longer as part of a balanced diet.
Granola Is Versatile
Granola can be served with milk, yoghurt, or fresh fruit, making it easy to customise and appeal to kids’ tastebuds. Its textures and natural sweetness (from dried fruit or healthy syrups like date syrup) make it enjoyable for children.
Granola Is Easy to Prepare
It’s a convenient, grab-and-go breakfast that requires little preparation, making mornings less stressful for busy families.
